“One From The Heart”

On Thanksgiving everything that could be ready before the guests arrived was ready, and I felt like hearing the Bach Cello Suites. Went to one of the too-many CD storage locations, looked in the classical section. . . and couldn’t find it. Looked again. Looked elsewhere. Asked husband, who said, “It’s there.” Only. . . it wasn’t.* So what to put on? I started scanning spines and my eyes landed on this old friend. I remember being in some store in SoHo in 198something, hearing this music, and asking the clerk what was on the soundtrack. Bought it immediately and listened to it a lot for many years. But it had been quite a while. As the oven hummed along and the Thanksgiving guests arrived it seemed perfect. Comfortably familiar. Brand new. Salt and pepper. Sweetness and spice. And just so damn good. Toms Waits and Crystal Gayle, “One From The Heart.”

If you poke around onYouTube you can find additional selections from the album, plus some alternate takes.
* Still haven’t found the Bach.

What memories! i was working at Zoetrope Studios when they were cutting the film. The song played over and over and over. But rather than get tired of it, I just continued to love it more and more.

Yes, I love this album – still have it on vinyl. Thanks for the reminder, I’ll play it today when I get home.
And thanks for this lovely blog. I’ve been catching up on reading it.
